Astonin-N contains a synthetic mineralocorticoid, a substance modeled after the hormones produced by the human adrenal cortex. It affects the absorption and excretion of mineral salts and water and at the same time has an effect that increases blood pressure. The effect usually occurs within 2-3 days and lasts several days after stopping treatment.
Indications. Astonin N is prescribed for diagnosing the following diseases and conditions:
- Addison’s disease;
- adrenogenital syndrome;
- short-term treatment of orthostatic hypotension in non-inflammatory neurological disorders.
Contraindications. Astonin N should not be used under the following conditions:
- acute potassium deficiency;
- the acid-base balance is out of balance and shifted to the alkaline region (metabolic alkalosis);
- increased water retention in tissues;
- low blood pressure caused by heart disease
- allergy to one of the constituent elements.
Application. Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:
- Addison’s disease: treatment is carried out with 1-3 tablets per day;
- adrenogenital syndrome: in the first weeks and months of life, the daily requirement of Astonin-N is 1 1/2 – 3 tablets per m2 of body surface. In the second year of life it drops to about half, in the third year it is only 1/4 to 1/3 of the initial dose;
- Short-term treatment of orthostatic hypotension in non-inflammatory neurological diseases: treatment is usually started with 1-2 Astonin-N tablets per day and reduced as symptoms improve.
Special instructions. The physician should carefully monitor body weight, blood pressure, and mineral levels during use. With the exception of Addison’s disease, you should not take the drug for more than two months.
In order for the drug to work well, you need to drink enough. If your blood pressure is too low because your body doesn’t have enough fluids, drinking a cup of salty broth or another salty drink may increase the effects of Astonin N.
