The drug belongs to a group of medicines called “cytostatics” that stop the growth of cancer cells. The drug capecitabine, which is not a cytostatic drug in itself. Capecitabine is converted into an active anti-cancer drug (primarily in tumor tissue) only after it has been absorbed into the body.
The drug is used to treat colon, rectal, stomach, or breast cancer.
In addition, the drug is used to prevent the recurrence of colorectal cancer after complete surgical removal of the tumor.
The drug can be used both alone and in combination with other drugs.

The basis for calculating the dose of the drug is the surface area of your body. This is calculated based on your height and weight. The usual adult dose is 1250 mg/m 2 body surface area twice a day (morning and evening). Two examples are given below: a person weighing 64 kg and height 1.64 m has a body surface area of 1.7 m 2 and therefore must take 4 tablets of 500 mg and 1 tablet of 150 mg twice a day. A person weighing 80 kg and height 1.80 m has a body surface area of 2.00 m 2 and therefore must take 5 tablets of 500 mg twice a day.
Your doctor will tell you what dose to take, when to take it, and for how long.
Your doctor may recommend that you take a combination of 150 mg and 500 mg tablets for each dose.
It is important that you take all of your medicines exactly as your doctor has prescribed.
Tablets are usually taken for 14 days, followed by a 7-day break during which no tablets are taken. This 21 day period constitutes one treatment cycle.
In combination with other drugs, the usual adult dose may be less than 1250 mg/m 2 body surface area. You may also need to take the tablets for a different period of time (for example, daily, without a break).
If you take more than you should
If you are taking more medicine than you should, talk to your doctor as soon as possible before taking your next dose.
If you take much more capecitabine than prescribed, the following side effects may occur: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, inflammation or sores in the abdomen or mouth, pain or bleeding from the intestines or stomach, or a decrease in the number of certain blood cells (bone marrow depression). ). Tell your doctor right away if you notice any of these symptoms.
If you forget to take a dose
Do not take this missed dose and do not double the next dose. Instead, continue with your regular dosing schedule and see your doctor.
If you stop taking it
There are no known side effects from discontinuing capecitabine treatment. If you are taking coumarin-type anticoagulants (such as those containing phenprocoumon) and stop taking capecitabine at the same time, your doctor may need to adjust the dose of the anticoagulant.
