The medicine contains the active ingredient human insulin and is used to treat diabetes. Then you develop diabetes, when your pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin to control your blood sugar. The medicine is used to achieve long-term control of blood sugar levels. The addition of protamine sulfate prolongs its action.

If your blood sugar is well controlled with your current insulin therapy, you may not feel warning symptoms if your blood sugar gets too low. Several patients who developed low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) after switching from animal insulin to human insulin reported that early warning symptoms were less pronounced or different.
