How does the medicine work?
The medicine belongs to a group of non-hormonal drugs called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). When a woman reaches menopause, the level of the female sex hormone estrogen in the blood decreases. The drug mimics some of the beneficial effects of estrogen after menopause.
Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to become thin and brittle. This disease is especially common in postmenopausal women. Although there may be no symptoms at first, osteoporosis causes bones to deteriorate more easily, especially the bones of the spine, hips, and wrists. It can also cause back pain, causing you to be shorter and cause your back to arch more.
