Main indication:
Ozempic® (semaglutide) injection 0.5 mg or 1 mg is a prescription injection drug used to treat adults with type 2 diabetes that is used with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar levels. It also reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular complications, such as heart attack, stroke, or death, in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease.
Ozempic® (semaglutide) is a modern, effective injection drug available in dosages of 0.5 mg or 1 mg.
Mechanism of action:
Ozempic®, a non-insulin drug, works by relying on the body’s ability to independently lower blood sugar and A1C levels. The main active ingredient in Ozempic® is semaglutide, a man-made version of the human GLP-1 molecule with some modifications. Ozempic® helps the body release its own insulin in response to changes in blood sugar levels.
Ozempic® regulates blood sugar levels in three ways:
1. Helps the pancreas release more insulin when blood sugar levels are high.
2. Helps prevent the liver from producing and releasing too much sugar.
3. Slows down the removal of undigested food from the stomach.
Efficacy of the drug during clinical trials:
Statistics from a year-long study show that the majority of adults taking Ozempic® were not only able to lower their hemoglobin A1C levels to a target of less than 7%, but were also able to maintain them at acceptable levels over the long term.
The following is the percentage of adult patients who, with an average initial A1C level of 8.1%, achieved an A1C level of less than 7%:
66% of patients taking 0.5 mg Ozempic®
73% of patients taking 1 mg Ozempic®
Although Ozempic® is not intended for weight loss, it does help obese patients lose some weight, which is an important preventive factor in the fight against diabetes. Patients with an average starting weight of 90 kg lost up to 5.5 kg over the course of a year.
Recommended dose and method of administration:
As one of the most effective diabetes medications, Ozempic® is extremely easy to use. The medicine is administered just once a week using a modern injector pen, subcutaneously into the abdomen, thigh or shoulder.
ATTENTION: the drug is not intended for intramuscular or intravenous administration!
Before you start using Ozempic®, your doctor will give you instructions, and detailed instructions included with each package of the drug will help you avoid problems in future use.
Ozempic® is taken once a week exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
